Congratulations on indulging in some luscious new Vixen & Luxe hair! Whether you had them installed with us some time ago or very recently, Please have a read of our care sheet below to familiarize yourself with the do's and don'ts of caring for your extensions. Feel free to ring or email us at any time if you have any questions. Until we have the pleasure of seeing you again, enjoy them!
Home care and maintenance
Home hair care is one of the most important aspects of your entire extension experience. Correct care and maintenance and using only the Vixen & Luxe hair care range will ensure you get the maximum life (7-12 months) out of your investment.
Picture perfect with the perfect products
Extensions can not have any type of protein or UV filters used on them. This is incredibly important because using products that contain protein will cause the hair to weaken and snap thus drastically reducing their life span, and UV filters mixed with hard water will discolour them. Most mainstream hair care products on the market do contain protein and UV filters, so always ensure you thoroughly check the labels of anything you may be considering and be aware that proteins can be hidden under different names on labels. We take pride in not only our installations but in our after-care too. After months of research and testing we have designed the Vixen & Luxe hair care range especially for our extensi9ons, they are great for natural hair too!
Good night, sleep tight
Ensure that you always loosely braid your hair at night. Braiding is required to keep the hair tidy and laying flat in one direction while you sleep. It also keeps your natural hair tangle free at the roots where the extensions are fastened, making brushing as easy as pie! It comes down to personal preference if you create one big braid or two smaller ones, the important thing is that you do it.
Scrub-a-dub-dub
Wash your hair like normal but make sure you always use the Vixen & Luxe hair care range which has been extensively tested. Don't be sacred to get right into the roots with your fingers, always be gentle but be thorough; they will not fall out!
Style, don’t scorch
Style your new locks just as you would you own hair; it’s that easy! It can be blow dried, straightened, crimped, curled – the sky is the limit .We strongly recommend that if you are using straightening irons, heated rollers or curling tongs that the temperature of the device does not exceed 180 degrees and that you always use the Vixen & Luxe heat protectant on both your extensions and natural hair every day regardless of washing or using hot tools, as sun and wind can damage extensions too. The majority of modern styling equipment now comes with the capability to adjust your tool/s temperature, Curling is just as easy as straightening with and if you are unsure on how to do it, one of our stylists would be happy to give you a quick lesson so you can maintain your salon fabulous look between visits.
Brush your locks beautiful
Brush your hair as you normally would but be gentle with it. Start with the ends first holding the mid- lengths as though you had a knot in the bottom so as to not pull or put unnecessary pressure on the cylinders. Do not tug or pull on the hair and be sure to always brush all of it, especially the roots. Don’t be afraid of your extensions or the cylinders, we promise they don’t bite! Treat them as you would your own hair, just with a little extra TLC. We stock special extension brushes that you can purchase which have unique bristles but any soft brush will do. Do not use ridged combs or hard bristled brushes on your natural hair or the extensions while they are installed.
Maintain that mane
After your initial hair extension install you will need to come in every 6-8 weeks to have the extensions lifted. This is because as your own hair grows, the extensions slowly move down and away from your scalp. Nice and close to the scalp is their optimal position and they also feel a lot more secure.
A lift involves removing all the extensions, brushing your hair while free of all the cylinders and then placing them back in the hair at scalp level. Your 6-8 week maintenance appointment is also the perfect time to schedule other services. Perhaps you would like a full head of foils, need a root touch up, or want to try foilayage? When your extensions are out for your lift we can cut, colour, treat, or tweak your natural hair for a refresh of your current look or, if you’re feeling bold, something completely new!
Skip the swimming
A lot of people ask if they can swim with their extensions in. The short answer is no. Aside from weighing down your hair causing tugging on your scalp and unnecessary pressure on the cylinders, salt and chemically treated water (chlorine at swimming pools) will very quickly dry out both your extensions and your natural hair. If you do decide to go swimming, to minimise any negative effect on your extensions we recommend the following:
• Avoid getting them wet. Invest in a good quality and well fitting swim cap.
• Put conditioner on your hair before putting on your swim cap. Conditioner will leave a protective film over your hair making it hard for any chlorine or salt to absorb in to the hair properly, so drown your hair in it!
• Shampoo and condition your hair well immediately after swimming with Vixen & Luxe products, and don’t forget the hair Mylk when you’re ready to dry. If you’re planning a beach vacation where you know there’ll be lots of sea, salt, sun, sand and swimming, consider getting your extensions removed beforehand and then re-installed. Talk to one of the girls about your travel dates and we can arrange your appointments so they’re whipped out and put back before you can say “Vacation”!
So this is it in a nutshell, we hope you enjoy your new extensions as much as we do! and remember we are always here to help.
